Mukti मुक्ति | Assistant Lighting Designer

Interlochen Center for The Arts - Corson Auditorium | 2023

New York Philharmonic - David Geffen Hall | 2023

Mukti मुक्ति was a collaboration performance completed with the New York Philharmonic, and premiered in David Geffen Hall at the Lincoln Center. Mukti was divided into two acts: the first act was an original piece created by students across arts disciplines representing the idea of liberation, and the second act was an orchestra performance completed with pieces chosen on the themes of Black Liberation.

As the assistant lighting designer on the project, my role was to be in the rehearsal space as much as possible, being able to understand the full scope of the show in order to convey that to the lighting designer. The nature of taking a show to New York, in a concert hall that did not typically see theatrical productions, offered a challenge in creating the most engaging performance, both in New York and at Interlochen. We were able to utilize the inherent portability of show files in order to speed up the process in New York, however we still needed to adapt to the ever-changing landscape of the show on the fly.
