The Penelopiad | Lighting Designer

Interlochen Center for The Arts - Phoenix Theatre | 2022

With The Penelopiad, my primary goal as a lighting designer was to communicate a vastly shifting space utilising the nature of the black-box theatre, lighting and fog in order to bring the audience into a space that didn’t fit their expectations nor perceived rules of what a space can, and should, be. I approached the show with the goal of best creating an engaging atmosphere with limited resources. Working off a rep plot, I converted the space from proscenium to an “in the round” theatre for lighting. I utilised a series of source4 instruments to create a more engaging house light system, for example. The Projections Designer and I worked together to use projections and lighting in tandem to create emotionally powerful moments with light, shape, and colour.
